SongAh Chae Trio | All Day Long | July 10, 2026

South Korean pianist and composer SongAh Chae presents All Day Long, a new release from the SongAh Chae Trio and the concluding chapter in a three-part project built around long-form, narrative composition. Based in Valencia, Chae has developed a distinctive approach where structure and improvisation unfold as one continuous thread, shaped by space, restraint, and collective interaction.

All Day Long is set for release on July 10th, 2026.

Chae’s musical identity has evolved through multiple releases as her trio’s work progressed over time, with a three-album cycle focusing on continuity rather than being defined by a single album.

Drawing inspiration from the Psalms, All Day Long follows earlier installments In the Beginning (2024) and Calling in the Wilderness (2025). Rather than interpreting specific texts, the music traces a wordless narrative shaped by reflection, patience, and quiet intensity – exploring an inner arc where stillness, tension, and release sit in careful balance.

Chae’s writing begins with imagery and theme, often rooted in the spiritual dimension of her life, before developing organically at the piano. Ideas emerge through improvisation – melody, harmony, and rhythm taking shape together – then gradually settle into compositions that retain the character of their initial impulse. That approach carries through to performance, where pieces remain flexible and responsive rather than fixed.

Formed in 2023, the trio – Chae, Cypriot bassist Manos Stratis, and British drummer Joshua Wheatley – operates as a collective voice, moving away from a soloist-with-accompaniment model. Their music is defined by attentive listening and subtle interaction, often blurring the roles of melody, rhythm, and texture. Across All Day Long, this results in a restrained but expressive sound, shifting between sparse, contemplative passages and more fluid, groove-led movement.

The material was developed through live performance before recording, allowing the trio to refine the music while keeping space for spontaneity in the studio. Alongside piano, bass, and drums, the subtle use of organ expands the palette without disrupting the trio’s core sound.

Since forming, the group has performed across Europe, including appearances at the EFG London Jazz Festival and a residency at Jimmy Glass Jazz Bar. With All Day Long, the trio brings this body of work into focus with a set of compositions that prioritise listening, space, and the gradual unfolding of a shared musical idea.
