Sol Jang Trio | 19 – 29 | October 3, 2024

Sol Jang is a visionary South Korean jazz pianist whose artistry transcends borders and genres. As the dynamic force behind the Sol Jang International Project, now reimagined as the Sol Jang Trio, she has carved a niche for herself in the global contemporary jazz scene with regular performances across Europe and South Korea.

Known for her profound connection to the piano and innovative approach to composition, her new record ‘19-29’ is set to release on October 3rd on Unit Records.

2024 marks a milestone year for Jang; receiving the prestigious Women in Jazz Festival Competition Award, as well as the Jazz Prize of the City of Halle, signify widespread recognition for her contributions to jazz and her unique ability to weave intricate musical narratives that resonate across cultural divides.

Titled ’19-29′, the record is a reflection of a decade of personal growth, exploration, and musical innovation. It promises to take listeners on a journey through the landscapes of Korea, the United States, and the Netherlands, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and the transformative power of music.

A Classical pianist turned jazz musician, Jang’s record is rooted in her distinctive approach to the piano, combining dense, angular harmony with a playful swing feel, classically trained dexterity, rubato arpeggiated soundscapes, spoken word and grooving basslines. The trio weave the two facets of Jang’s musical voice together with ease and vision, juxtaposing space, texture and tension with momentum, melody and groove, delivering highly interactive and personal performances across a number of contrasting musical situations.

Following the album’s release, the Sol Jang Trio will embark on an album release tour, sharing their captivating take on modern jazz with audiences in South Korea, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland through May 2025.
