The record is an insight into Jambor’s musical journey, dedicated to the people and music that have shaped it. “First Song”, originally written as a ballad when he began composing, returns a decade later as a waltz while retaining its lyrical character. “BB Sketches” grew from a piano ostinato and bass line in 9/8, while “Quartet No. 4” developed from Jambor’s listening to Don Grolnick’s band with Michael Brecker alongside Bartók’s Hungarian Peasant Songs, leading to an exploration of European classical tradition through a jazz setting.

The album grew out of a quartet that first came together when pianist Matyas Bartha invited Jambor to play at Vienna’s ZWE. Having already worked together, they were soon joined by bassist Danny Ziemann and drummer Oleg Markov, and Jambor began bringing his own compositions to the group. As they played more concerts together the musicians developed a shared repertoire and an approach in which each member contributes their own musical identity to the compositions. Following tours through Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Hungary, Jambor felt the time was right to record the quartet.

The title track emerged after Jambor met saxophonist Rick Margitza in 2022, an encounter he describes as a major shift in his approach to music. Its title reflects on the temporary nature of relationships, feelings and moments, and how their passing gives them significance. Elsewhere, “Space Monk” draws inspiration from Thelonious Monk, while “Sonnytude” celebrates Sonny Stitt and Sonny Rollins, two saxophonists who have played an important role in Jambor’s musical identity.

Jambor has performed across Europe with groups including Jazzorchester Steiermark, the international JMI Jazz Orchestra and the Jim Rotondi All Stars Quintet, and released his first album, Fragments, with Nexus LineUp in 2018. He received first prize at Budapest’s “Downtown” Jazzcontest and the Forum Hungaricum Award in 2023, and is also co-founder and arranger of Unorthodox Radio, a project combining pop melodies with R&B, neo-soul and jazz.
