Stefan Sirbu | Reverie | March 7, 2025
Born in Moldova and now making his home in Germany, pianist and composer Stefan Sirbu invites listeners to immerse themselves in a musical study of the art of daydreaming through his highly anticipated second album. A delicate, genre-blurring exploration of personal reflection and fleeting moments of beauty, Reverie is set to be released on March 7th, 2025.
Following the success of his debut, Autumn Whispers (2021), Sirbu continues his tradition of international collaboration, featuring a quartet of world-class New York musicians, including tenor saxophonist Julieta Eugenio, bassist Clovis Nicolas, and drummer Anthony Pinciotti.
By blending jazz tradition with classical influences and a contemporary spirit, Sirbu’s nuanced approach—eschewing technical showmanship in favor of melodic storytelling—offers a listening experience that is both intimate and universally resonant.
Captured at the legendary Tedesco Studios in New York, the album showcases Sirbu’s delicate comping and contemplative songwriting, paired with the quartet’s masterful ensemble musicianship, interplay, and spontaneity.
From the lush, J.S. Bach influenced, chorale-like quality of the title track, Reverie, to the happy-go-lucky swing of No Worries, Sirbu’s compositions span a range of moods and styles. A reimagining of a piece from his debut, the grooving, Rhodes-driven “Elsa au Miroir” breathes new life into a familiar melody. That Very Vienne is a cinematic nod to Sirbu’s formative experiences in the French town. The closing waltz, V.S.T., which Sirbu composed two decades ago, has over time become one of his most beloved works.
Composed for the transient beauty of twilight bus rides, peaceful city strolls, and quiet moments of introspection, Reverie was conceived as a brief yet immersive journey. Its seven tracks encourage listeners to drift into a dreamlike state, only to awaken to a resonant silence after the last note fades.
Drummer Anthony Pinciotti tragically passed away on the 30th of December, 2024, just months after his heartfelt contributions to this record.
