Tineke Postma | VOYA | November 14, 2025
Recognized as one of Europe’s most distinctive saxophonists, Tineke Postma opens a new chapter with her ninth album as a leader, VOYA. Known for her lyrical, melodic, and adventurous style, Postma continues to push forward, this time inviting the celebrated vocalist Theo Bleckmann into her long-standing ensemble.
VOYA is set for release on November 14th, 2025 via Clap Your Hands.
The album’s title resonates on multiple levels: it calls upon “voyage,” a passage both outward and inward; it pays tribute to “the voice,” honoring Bleckmann’s presence as instrument; and it invokes Oya, the Yoruba wind goddess of transformation, breath, and storm. In this way, VOYA becomes a journey through wind, voice, and spirit – a vessel for listening, reflection, and transformation.
Postma’s group – David Dorůžka (guitar, Prague), Robert Landfermann (double bass, Cologne), and Tristan Renfrow (drums, Amsterdam) – has, after years of touring across the world, forged a sound that is deeply personal, always evolving, and built on trust and listening. On VOYA, they are joined by Grammy-nominated vocalist and ECM artist Theo Bleckmann, renowned for his genre-blurring work across jazz, new music, and experimental sound. As one of Postma’s most admired voices on the international scene, Bleckmann adds a dimension that is both expansive and intimate to Tineke’s compositions, helping the ensemble shape a musical language that thrives in the unknown.
Postma has collaborated with icons including Herbie Hancock, Kenny Barron, Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, and the WDR Big Band, and appeared on two Grammy Award-winning albums with Carrington (The Mosaic Project) and Dianne Reeves (Beautiful). She is the recipient of major honors including European Musician of the Year (Académie du Jazz, France, 2020), Rising Star for Soprano Saxophone – Downbeat Polls (2019), the Buma Boy Edgar Award (2015), the Edison Award (2011 and 2024), and the Jazz Juan Revelations Award (2009).
Mentored by the late Wayne Shorter – who personally recommended her to take his role in performances of his symphonic works with Esperanza Spalding, Danilo Perez, John Patittucci and Terri Lyne Carrington – Postma carries forward his spirit of curiosity, openness, and transformation. On VOYA, she honors that lineage while continuing to expand her own deeply personal voice.
