Jan Grabowski | Jazz Mysteries | July 10, 2026

Washington D.C. based Polish-Australian pianist/ composer Jan Grabowski takes an unconventional path into jazz on Jazz Mysteries – a record shaped not by formal training, but by instinct, deep listening, and a lifelong obsession with the music. A self-taught musician, Grabowski draws on spontaneous ideas that emerge in moments of heightened emotion, creating music that explores the connection between improvisation and feeling.

Jazz Mysteries is set for release on July 10th, 2026.

“I was not interested in learning what was already written, but instead to create my own music and improvise,” Grabowski explains. That approach defines Jazz Mysteries, where each piece begins with a spontaneous spark, later shaped into a fully realised composition, resulting in music that feels immediate, personal, and unfiltered.

Despite his self-taught background, Grabowski has drawn praise from high-level jazz musicians for the strength and originality of his writing – opening the door to collaborations with an international ensemble of musicians active across the U.K., U.S., and Cuba, brought together through connections built on the live scene and at musician-led events.

Musically, Jazz Mysteries moves between modal exploration, groove-driven interplay and jazz-fusion textures. Tracks like Forward Voyage capture a sense of momentum and adventure, while Counting Sevens explores evolving time signatures. Elsewhere, Serenading The Morning Sun leans into a jazz-fusion sound world, and Happy Beluga brings a lighter, funk-inflected energy.

At its core, the album is rooted in human connection. My Dearest Christine, written for Grabowski’s wife, stands as a deeply personal statement, while Footsteps Over The Horizon reflects a sense of optimism and openness toward the unknown.

Recorded across multiple locations in Cuba, the U.K., and the U.S., Jazz Mysteries brings together a diverse ensemble including Camila Cortina Bello (synthesizers, piano), Noam Tanzer (acoustic bass), Kali Rodriguez-Peña (trumpet), Emir Santa Cruz (tenor saxophone), Samer Sharawi (electric bass), and Andy Wilder (drums).

Named for the elusive quality at the heart of improvised music, Jazz Mysteries reflects Grabowski’s belief in the power of spontaneity: how music, created in the moment, can communicate emotion, energy, and meaning beyond words.
