Kostas Patsiotis | October | October 20, 2023
Release: October 20, 2023
With over 100 releases of various musical styles under his belt, recordings made for film and TV and having shared the stage with the likes of Chris Cornell(Soundgarden, Audioslave), Algerian piano legend Maurice El Medioni, and leading New York tap dancer Heather Cornell, Greek bassist Kostas Patsiotis has spent the last decade establishing himself in Athens as an active performing member of the jazz scene as well as passionate educator.
His debut record under his own name showcases his confidence as a composer, bandleader and instrumentalist. ‘October’ is set to release on the 20th of October.
The collection of seven original compositions are dedicated to the sentiments he associates with the transformative month – namely sweetness, nostalgia, melancholy undertones and hopes for a better future.
First picking up the bass at the age of 13, Patsiotis entered the world of music through his love for rock and prog. More recently, the composer draws inspiration in equal parts from household names of the jazz traditionsuch as Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Bill Evans as well as contemporary trailblazers like Brad Mehldau, Avishai Cohen and Gilad Hekselman, striving to connect the past with the future through his writing. Influences from further afield include lyrical folk melodies and dark harmony reminiscent of Western classical music.
Recorded in a single day at Antart Studios in Athens, the quartet featuring Yiannis Papadopoulos on piano, Michael Tsiftis on guitar and Dimitris Klonis on drums interpret Patsiotis’ compositions with energy, virtuosityand emotion. Unison lines at breakneck speeds, vivacious drum grooves, and effortless improvisationscome together to craft a sound that is as delicate and dynamic as it is fearless and exciting.
