Zak Scerri | In Case I Don’t See You | May 8, 2026
London-based Australian guitarist/composer Zak Scerri proudly presents his sophomore album and first release since relocating to the UK. Steeped in Jazz tradition but shaped by a broader musical upbringing, the trio recording brings together nearly a decade in a project that celebrates transition and renewal.
‘In Case I Don’t See You’ is set for release on May 8th, 2026
Scerri began playing guitar at 12, initially immersed in rock before gravitating toward jazz and contemporary sounds. That dual identity remains central to his writing. While grounded in jazz language, his compositions draw on groove, rock energy, and a refusal to sit neatly within one stylistic box. The trio format – open, responsive, and exposed – provides the ideal setting for that blend.
The record features Ross Anderson on double bass and Billy Pod on drums, musicians Scerri describes as the perfect collaborators for exploring this wide musical terrain. Together, they move fluidly between lyrical passages, groove-driven sections, and moments of raw, unfiltered energy.
Marking a personal turning point for Scerri – a sense of finally feeling settled somewhere new, while acknowledging the closing of a previous chapter – the eight original compositions span almost ten years, from the title track, written in 2017, to pieces completed just weeks before the recording session.
Each piece is centered around a distinctly personal narrative. “Almost Home” captures the transient period of living between spaces after first arriving in London. “The Push Back” reflects on the state of the world and the need to stand up for what is good, incorporating subtle use of a freeze pedal to sustain and frame the melody. “M.M” is a playful, slightly off-centre dedication to his cat, Marley. “Another Door,” written shortly before recording, challenges Scerri technically, with melody and accompaniment performed simultaneously without overdubs. Meanwhile, “Roach” leans most directly into his rock roots, closing the album with an uninhibited, high-energy performance.
The title track, inspired by a line from The Truman Show – “In case I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night” – has become a staple of Scerri’s live repertoire. Though one of his earliest compositions, it has endured, resonating with audiences as a musical farewell that carries reassurance rather than finality.
With In Case I Don’t See You, Zak Scerri brings together past and present influences in a cohesive trio statement – reflective without being nostalgic, and grounded in the interplay of three musicians fully present in the moment.
