JAZZFUEL MANAGER

1-to-1 feedback & support, a private online community of jazz musicians & monthly live industry sessions & challenges

If you don’t have a manager looking after your career, it can seem difficult to untangle all the different things you’re meant to be doing.

Not to mention that being a self-managed, self-booking musician trying to build your profile and create music at the same time can take up a lot of brain space!

More often than not, artists with a manager succeed not simply because there’s a manager doing everything, but because they act as someone to help you keep your focus and to bounce ideas off of.

Jazzfuel Manager is a monthly membership which exists to help with this through:

  • Mini-courses on topics such as Spotify, mailing lists, press coverage & album launches
  • A private forum where you can see what other musicians are having success with and get unlimited feedback on your own plans
  • Monthly live sessions to ask questions or connect with other musicians
  • Live ‘challenges’ to get some accountability on career-related work such as pitching for gigs, press or Spotify playlists

Affordable access to expert help & support

Sometimes, simply getting some feedback on your project, seeing what other musicians are working on or getting a fresh input of ideas from someone on the ‘industry’ side can make a big difference.

Not only can it help you achieve more, it can also help you do it with less stress and less wasted time.

We’ve seen plenty of musicians join with a new album in progress and end up with press coverage in multiple countries, a jump in online engagement and real-life orders for their music.

We’ve seen others who have just found strength in connecting with other like-minded musicians and seeing how they look after their careers.

Jazzfuel Manager lets you join a group of professional jazz musicians spread around the world with one thing in common: they are seriously and actively working to figure out how they can get the most out of their music and their career.

I don’t know about you, but being around other people who are pushing and working is, by itself, motivating and inspiring!

And, on top of that, you get unusually up-close access to a whole range of industry guests who come to distill their years of experience in the industry into some practical, actionable advice for you.

LATEST INDUSTRY GUEST (available on replay)

We welcome music consultant Amy Pearce who, across a 20-year career has worked as co-programmer of the London Jazz Festival and as Director of Global Strategy for Edition Records.

LATEST 'ASK ME ANYTHING' THREAD: EMILY JONES

British jazz promoter Emily Jones (Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Sage Gateshead, etc) spent a week in the members forum answering questions and sharing advice. Check the thread and add your own comments.

NEXT LIVE CHALLENGE: SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS

In September, we’re running a 10 day Spotify challenge to improve your profile and pitch to playlisters.

What can Jazzfuel Manager do for you?

Of course, joining a membership doesn’t guarantee you success. That takes great music and consistent hard work on your part.

But what we can guarantee is that you’ll have access to quick, 1-to-1 feedback on all your questions, interesting live sessions where you can learn from people working inside the jazz ‘industry’ and a chance to network with other professional jazz musicians around the world.

Here’s what a usual month looks like:

  • LIVE Q&A: Once a month, there’s a live members session (via video) where you can watch a short presentation on a relevant topic, hear about some of the recent work and successes of members and ask any questions.
  • LIVE INDUSTRY GUEST: Once a month we welcome an industry guest from the jazz world to join for a live on-screen session or to host a one-week ‘ask me anything’ thread. In the past, this has included jazz journalists, publicists, record label workers, agents & promoters. You can watch and listen live or on replay and ask questions via a chat box.
  • MANAGER FORUM: You have 24/7 access to the Jazzfuel Manager forum which includes every question that has so far been asked inside Jazzfuel Manager. You can post your own questions or feedback requests whenever you like and, in general, get an answer within 24 hours.
  • GOAL SETTING: on the 1st of each month there’s a thread inside the Jazzfuel Manager forum where you can share your goals and targets for the coming month. Not only does it help you organise you plans, it pushes you to achieve them because you’ve committed to them publicly!
  • HIVE MIND: You know the saying ‘2 heads are better than one…?’ Well try FIFTY heads: each month in the forum we ask members to share insight or tips on a very specific topic. It could be the #1 influencer in their city or how they’re dealing with the current situation… Join in, watch or check out the old threads.
  • CHALLENGES: Alongside the standalone courses on topics like Spotify, press campaigns and mailing lists which you have access to, we sometimes host quick ‘spring’ challenges, such as the 10 day Facebook Engagement challenge. As a Jazzfuel Manager member, you have free access to all of those, too.

Want to check it out?

If you’re keen to get access to all of this (and more), Jazzfuel Manager is currently available to join.

For now, it’s a monthly membership so you pay each month that you want to stay inside, and cancel whenever you want.

Note: the membership is growing each week and once we hit a certain number of members, we’re going to pause new signups for a while. That’s not a trick to get you to join, it’s an honest policy to make sure that we can give great value to the people we have on the inside!

Mailing List Bootcamp

The key to growing a long-term career as a creative musician is to have direct access to fans around the world.

Whilst social media can be effective for doing this, you have to play by their rules – which change regularly (hello Facebook) – and hope they don’t disappear along with all your fans (hello MySpace).

Enter, mailing lists of people who’ve given you permission to contact them with your news. This mini-course will help you do work on this efficiently and effectively by taking you through:

  1. Getting started. Whether you’re new to mailing lists, or you just haven’t worked on it for a while, make sure everything is set up properly.
  2. Growing your list. Specific strategies for getting real fans around the world to give you permission to email them your news.
  3. Engaging your subscribers. Steps for turning a causal email subscriber into a lifelong fan who will buy your music and come to your gigs.

As well as the step-by-step video course, you can post questions and support requests into the members-only forum. Whether your struggles with this are due to technical difficulties or lack of an effective plan, you can start making progress right away.
